Who/What/When/Where and sometimes Why are you? I am Ben Ross, a composer of music, a performer of music, and a lover of music. I live in early 21st century central Pennsylvania, and currently perform primarily in State College and the surrounding area.
How would you describe your music? Always a tough question…in a useless word I would say alternative. Sometimes it feels like indie, sometimes rock, sometimes folk, sometimes jazz. Always original, and in its purest form as it arrives in my head.
What instruments do you play? For solo performances, I primarily play 6-string and 12-string acoustic guitars. I have experimented with drums, electric guitar, keyboard, and synthesizers on various demo tracks. I am always looking for people to play with to enhance the euphonic experience—join the band!
Who do you consider major influences? Well I must admit growing up on a combination of classic rock and the 90s alternative. More recently I have drawn inspiration from the singer-songwriters from the 70s era (James Taylor, Paul Simon) to the present (Damien Rice, Rufus Wainwright) and also the modern alternative and indie scene (Radiohead, Wilco, The Shins, Death Cab for Cutie, Flaming Lips).
